Bob Schulz (Production Director) undertook rode along the South Downs Way all in aid of charity. Here he tells us all about it.
“After talking about riding the SDW on my mountain bike for over a year I decided to bite the bullet and do it! The SDW is 100 miles in length and totals 10,000 Ft of ascent along the way so to be fair to my legs I decided to do it over three days. I completed on Sunday 5th May and ‘fair’ was not the correct word! I underestimated how hard it would be and obviously my fitness levels, as each evening I could hardly walk, think or speak!
Joking apart the trip was fantastic with great scenery and lots of wildlife. The weather was good to us except on Saturday morning when it rained hard for a few hours and was very windy. I also got a puncture at this time which was not good when your fingers are starting to freeze and water is dripping in your eyes…………..thank god for self-adhesive patches!!!
There were two of us riding as a friend had to pull out last minute and it total we got 6 punctures and my mate fell off on Saturday which resulted in a fractured Humorous bone at his shoulder and some rather deep cuts! We rode a total of 114 miles and our longest day was Saturday where we rode 44.5 miles. The pint of Kronenburg was well received at the end of that day!
As with any challenge (pain) I put myself through I like to raise some money for charity and as always I chose the Cystic Fibrosis trust. I have been overwhelmed by everybody who has sponsored me which as of today (17/05) is £1054!! Thank you to everyone who has donated to this fantastic charity. I am still collecting so if anyone is feeling generous you can donate at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/BobSchulz
Many thanks!!”
