Employee Spotlight: Tom Wood, Compliance Assistant

Tom Wood, Compliance Assistant at Baldwin Boxall

A typical day looks like this…

“I support the company through a variety of tasks, such as maintaining RAMS and compliance documentation, answering compliance questions when they arise, supporting quality and safety processes throughout the business, amongst other tasks.

I enjoy being a colleague that my peers can rely on when they need information, documentation or an extra pair of eyes on compliance-related tasks.”

How long have you worked for Baldwin Boxall?
I’ve been working at Baldwin Boxall now for just over eight months.

Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
I do love sea fishing from the beach with lures for bass and baits for other sea fish, depending on the time of year. Spending time outdoors and cooking BBQs at home and cooking outdoors.

I also enjoy woodworking and have a large collection of various tools and machinery and my wife has banned me from buying any more tools!

What was your first job?
I started as an Apprentice Toolmaker at General Motors South Africa in the early 90’s.

What one thing would you change about the industry you work in?

If you weren’t doing what you’re doing now, what would you be doing?
I would work as a fishing guide, teaching people how to fish.

Film or box set – what are you watching now?
The Landman Series is very good.

What can’t you live without?
Good home cooked food and fishing.

What building would you like to be locked in overnight?
Bass Pro shops Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee, USA.

What would you do if you were Prime Minister for the day?
I would make it a day off for everyone!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
If you have nothing nice to say about someone, then don’t say anything at all.

What is the best advice you would give?
Don’t ever say “never”
