20 Fenchurch Street, London, frequently referred to as “The Walkie-Talkie” is an easily recognisable tower in the City of London.
Incorporating world class office accommodation, 20 Fenchurch Street also has a unique Sky Garden, which is the highest public park in London. Jointly owned by Canary Wharf Group and Land Securities, the 34-storey building is 525 ft tall and features 688,000 sq ft of office space.
The Project
Global Fire & Security, a Gold Status Baldwin Boxall integrator, was chosen to design and install both systems in this prestigious building.
The VIGIL2 Voice Alarm system consists of eleven racks and covers the 48 zones within the tower. Control of the system is via two touchscreen stations and also an annunciator panel. The voice alarm system has been designed with a relay per zone to enable the triggering of an associated beacon via the fire alarm system.
The OmniCare system that is installed includes the unique style combined outstation, which includes both a fire telephone and a disabled refuge communication point in one housing. All the outstations are wired in a loop and are controlled by the 96-way master panel. In addition, the system has been designed so that it can be controlled by the operator of the annunciator panel.
Stuart Beeley, Operations Director, Global Fire & Security, said:
We have worked alongside Canary Wharf Contractors on many projects and were delighted to be chosen to provide the fire life safety systems for this iconic building. The VIGIL2 and OmniCare systems were an obvious choice for us – we know that when we install a Baldwin Boxall product that it will work. If we encounter any issues or problems on site, Baldwin Boxall are always quick to respond and we have absolute confidence in fitting their systems.
